Stephen King’s Billy Summers is heading to the big screen, and the first details of the movie have landed as well.
Last year saw the underrated Mr Harrigan’s Phone land on Netflix, while Firestarter was critically mauled. This year is set to see another two Stephen King adaptations hit the screen – The Boogeyman, from director Rob Savage, and the long awaited remake of Salem’s Lot, directed by Gary Dauberman.
We can now add Billy Summers to the list of some 15 King projects currently in various stages of development.
The plot concerns the title character, who is a hitman eager to take on one last, lucrative job so he can retire. Hired by the mob to assassinate another hitman, Joel Allen, who could incriminate them, he poses as a writer to ingratiate himself into the small town where Allen lives, but things soon go awry.
The original plan was to turn the novel into a ten part television series. Now, we’re getting a feature instead.
No director is attached as of yet, but Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz are writing the screenplay, which will be produced by JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way production companies.
