Russell T Davies steps back for the time being from his Doctor Who Magazine column, as he says “we don’t know what’s happening yet.”

By now, even though nothing’s been officially confirmed, most of us have got the lay of the land now. In terms of the future of Doctor Who, Disney shows little sign of renewing its cash-rich deal with the BBC to co-produce the show. The search is apparently on for another financier to work with the corporation. And amidst this, Russell T Davies has – for the time being – called time on his column in Doctor Who Magazine.

Writing in the newly released issue, Davies says “we don’t know what’s happening yet, and while everyone works that out, I’ll take a pause on this page.”

Magazine print deadlines are such that he’d have had to have written those words a few weeks ago, but there’s little news in the interim that seems to change the tone and meaning of them. He does add that “hopefully, we’ll have news soon”, and there is the small matter of upcoming spin-off miniseries The War Between The Land And The Sea.

But: Doctor Who is back where it’s been before, in some degree of limbo. Rumour suggests that the end of the last episode, The Reality War, was retooled to accommodate the departure of Ncuti Gatwa from the TARDIS. As you more than likely know, the last season of the show did leave things on something of a hasty cliffhanger, and who knows how and when that’ll be picked up.

I popped down a few thoughts on where the show goes from here in the video below. I even washed the shirt especially.

We’re back in something of a game of wait and see, but for now, Russell T Davies if anything is confirming what many of us had worked out for some time: we don’t know what’s happening next.

Hopefully, we’ll know soon. In the meantime, do support print magazines if you can: the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine is here.
